Stop leaks
Check for worn tap washers. A dripping tap might not appear to be wasting much water, but it quickly adds up. Repair leaking pipes. A single leak over a long period can waste thousands of litres.

1. Replace your old water heater with a gas boosted solar water heater.
2. Install ceiling insulation.
3. Turn off the second fridge.
4. Turn off appliances at the wall when not in use, saving standby power.
5. Use a ceiling fan as an effective cooling alternative on most summer days.
6. Reduce the length of your shower from 8 mins to 4 mins.
7. Wash clothes in cold water instead of hot water.
8. Turn off the home computer when not in use, or activate standby shutdown feature.
9. Replace 4 incandescent globes with 4 compact fluorescents, in high use areas.
10. Choose your air conditioner wisely.

It’s not difficult to save energy in your home. Small changes in the way you use appliances and taking a little extra care will result in significant savings of energy and money, and will contribute to reducing our greenhouse gas emissions. The greatest opportunity to save is with appliances that use the most power, such as water heating, space heating and cooling.
