Energy generation
In WA, 99 per cent of our electricity is generated by burning fossil fuels such as coal and gas which in turn produce carbon dioxide. For every unit of electricity produced, around 3 units of fuel must be burnt at the power station and as a result, around 1 kg of carbon dioxide is produced.

Soon, all new homes built in WA will be required to incorporate minimum energy and water efficiency measures. But you don’t have to be building a new home to help save for the future. Making a few thoughtful choices each day can dramatically reduce your household’s impact on the environment. In late 2007, the Department of Housing and Works released a discussion paper on introducing sustainability into existing homes. Comments were invited on both the issues raised in the discussion paper, as well as any innovative concepts that hadn't been discussed. The public comment period closed on 14 December 2007, but click here to see the latest news. To learn more about greening your home, act now and click on the links below. |
