Stop leaks
Check for worn tap washers. A dripping tap might not appear to be wasting much water, but it quickly adds up. Repair leaking pipes. A single leak over a long period can waste thousands of litres.

Top tips for greener homes

1. Install water efficient plumbing fittings.

2. Mulch or compost your kitchen waste to reduce what goes in your rubbish bin.

3. Install ceiling insulation to keep your heating and cooling costs down.

4. Install an environmentally friendly, gas-boosted solar water heater.

5. If you're building or renovating, choose a design that incorporates energy efficient features

Greener Homes

Soon, all new homes built in WA will be required to incorporate minimum energy and water efficiency measures. But you don’t have to be building a new home to help save for the future. Making a few thoughtful choices each day can dramatically reduce your household’s impact on the environment.

In late 2007, the Department of Housing and Works released a discussion paper on introducing sustainability into existing homes. Comments were invited on both the issues raised in the discussion paper, as well as any innovative concepts that hadn't been discussed.

The public comment period closed on 14 December 2007, but click here to see the latest news.
