Carbon Calculator

Did you know...

Energy generation
In WA, 99 per cent of our electricity is generated by burning fossil fuels such as coal and gas which in turn produce carbon dioxide. For every unit of electricity produced, around 3 units of fuel must be burnt at the power station and as a result, around 1 kg of carbon dioxide is produced.

Top transport tips

1. Walking, riding a bike or using public transport will reduce emissions from the family car.

2. Try the bus, train or ferry for some of your work or shopping trips or to get to sporting events, concerts or other attractions.

3. Carpool whenever you can to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions from cars.

4. You can avoid some trips altogether by using phone, fax or modem.

5. Maintaining correct tyre pressure can reduce your fuel consumption by up to 3 per cent as well as reducing tyre wear.

6. When it's time to buy a new car, consider changing to one with a smaller engine that uses less fuel. Better yet, consider a hybrid.

7. The more weight you're carrying in your car, the higher your fuel consumption. Try to pare down the excess kilos in the boot.

8. Take advantage of the LPG subsidy scheme to convert your car to fuel that produces less greenhouse gas emissions.
